Preparation for the ConcertThe Sydney Friends of Bumi Sehat held a fundraising event on Friday 19 October and transformed Level 14 of the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences at UTS into a concert hall.  Guests enjoyed an evening of musical performances which opened with a selection of world music by the UTS Blue Stocking Choir. The stage ignited with the sassy sounds of Jazz performed by Franchesca Appolis, Clive Jonathan on sax and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, Theo van Leeuwen on keyboard they performed songs by Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Diana Kralls and more.

The audience received a special treat when Natalie Aroyan, one of the principals of Opera Australia’s summer season stepped on the stage and raised the roof with her great passion, feeling and beautiful articulation of arias from her favourite operas. She was accompanied by Michael Curtain.

The stage was transformed into a classical haven when three young performers from Newtown Performing Arts School starring Antonia Flowers (piano), Brian Hong (violin) and Deidre Hanrahan-Tan (cello) performed Trio No 8 G Major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Invierno Porteno by Astor Piazolla. The surprise package of the night diva Annelise Johnson an absolute star in the making raised the roof with repertoire particularly her vocals on Midnight Train to Georgia and Michael Duchesne … the man with the voice, a gifted singer/songwriter performed a mix of soul/R&B and a grand finale of vibrant song and dance by One World Choral.
